My Review:

I have declared several times already that Reily Garrett has become one of my favorite authors, due to her stories, her writing skills and the way she brings life to her characters. I was happy to have received a copy of “Tiago” in exchange for a review and I do encourage you to give it a shot.

The story is well developed, the surroundings are great and the idea of a rainforest protector getting involved with a human is making this story amazing. I liked the determination each character had in following their objective; I liked how Belle and Tiago got close to each other and leaned to trust.

Belle proves to be strong even when witnessing her mother’s death. Her struggle to find out the truth and be prepared for every challenge is well presented. On the other hand, we have Tiago, whose determination to protect Belle is as equally powerful.

I will keep this review short, mostly because I have too many things to say about the story and I’m afraid I might spoil the fun. It has it all, fantasy, romance, mystery, paranormal. I could not wish for more.  So I will mention again my full appreciation towards Reily Garrett and all her books! Out of the 4 I’ve read, not one has disappointed me until now.

To close my review, obviously 5 out of 5 stars for “Tiago” and I am so looking forward to a new book in the series! Enjoy J

Sneak peek

Macabre shadows crawled across the tile floor to coalesce in a growing pool, bathing the kitchen in dark comfort as Brielle closed the back door. A long day of sorting microbes had induced residual eyestrain she’d love to deep six in favor of a long vacation where her closest neighbors hung by their tails, ate bananas, and cavorted on liana vines.

The last day of work before leave always entailed loose ends needing a quick tie-off. To make matters worse, her panty-whispering boss hit on her for the hundredth time, not understanding the word no. Perhaps some longhorn beetles deposited in his lunch box might change his point of view as far as women equating rabbits, waiting to be bred. If she had to make a comparison, she’d have likened herself to a lynx, solitary and a little wild, preferring dense forest to the concrete and glass modern world.

She’d chalked the day’s pall of trepidation up to the inevitable catastrophe encroaching on her horizon, bearing down at a speed her mind failed to comprehend. Heavy rain drumming on the roof didn’t help her mood. Now, her gaze scanned obscure corners of the room for the source of her tension.

Soft snoring from her mom’s bedroom drifted down the hallway as she eased into her own room, those precious, breathy sounds she’d not hear much longer as the ravages of cancer devoured her mom’s strength. She’d never expected fairness in life, but the avalanche of disaster plunging downhill threatened the fabric of her sanity. She and her mom were all she’d ever known through the highs of earning an advanced degree to the lows of her social awkwardness.

Muted rays of moonlight sifted through shivering autumn leaves to highlight two airline tickets sitting innocently on her dresser. Next trip—there’d only be one. Within weeks, she’d lose her only known family, the only person who’d understood the unique complexities of her character and loved her anyway. They’d wanted to see the Amazon River basin one more time, together. Making special arrangements had taxed her mental reserves as if that very action brought her closer to orphan status.

Sitting on the end of her bed was more an act of weakening legs than design. When hot tears finally glazed her cheeks, she feared the tidal wave of emotion would smash her wall of stoic determination and drown her in its flood to wash away any trace of her existence. The soft tapping raindrops against the windowpane emulated a metronome from hell, counting down her mom’s remaining heartbeats in cold, mechanical precision.

Holding tight to the necklace at her throat gave little comfort tonight. Normally, it served as a constant reminder of its origins and the semi-annual trips they’d taken to the rainforest, but now the cold crystal brought images of her mom’s failing health despite every effort to stop the cancer’s invasion of her liver and lungs. She’d never taken it off or even shown it to another living soul, per her mom’s warning.

“Oh, Mom, please don’t leave me. We have to find a way to beat this.” Yet the ineffectiveness of the latest round of chemo echoed in her mom’s new hand tremor and the wheeze punching the air even on short walks.

Through it all, self-pity had not become her master or companion, yet to see the only one she loved defeated and accepting the inevitable broke her in a way nothing else could. Day-to-day deterioration made her long for the calming sights and sounds of the Amazon. Its varied existence softened the harsh reality of her life. A cold Guarana might soothe right now, but the caffeine would keep her awake, and her mom wanted to talk on the plane tomorrow morning. Finally, she’d hear the story of her birthright. Water would do just fine—for the moment.

Mechanical movements of packing in low light and reserving an early AM taxi had become rote with years of practice. One of her peculiarities provided her with unusually keen sight, negating the need for a bedside lamp. If only her mind were as keen and could fathom a way to destroy the insidious invasion claiming her mom’s life essence hour by hour, minute by minute.

Light clinking of dishes as she put away the air-dried, dinner plates reminded her they wouldn’t be eating their next weeks’ meals in what Uncle Jack called civilized society. From their first trip to the southern hemisphere long ago, she’d preferred the simpler way of life, but her mom had insisted it wasn’t time to move south. Not yet. The basis for that decision remained a mystery, to be solved at thirty-thousand feet the next morning.

“I wish we’d relocated years ago. Maybe the shaman could’ve found a cure.” Small pools of low light from cylindrical pendant lamps over the sink provided the only illumination in the kitchen and a soothing balm to her fracturing soul.

The fine hair on her nape prickled, alerting her to danger, yet no stealthy sounds disturbed the atmosphere. No subtle change in air currents brushed her face. She could move like that, too.

Figurative bands tightened around her chest.

She stilled.

“I’m glad you didn’t.” The sultry feminine voice held as much arrogance as threat.

Whirling around in shock, Brielle dropped the porcelain plate. Its shattered pieces skidded across the porcelain tile to stop at a black, steel-toed, jump boot, the rhythmic tapping indicating her intruder’s agitated frame of mind.

A sharp inhale supplied further information as the mystery guest swayed her arm left-to-right, right-to-left. Her six-inch blade handled as an extension of her fingers and reflected narrow beams of light to dance along the ceiling. Beads of moisture clung to her leather jacket and pants, perpetuating the chemical smell filling the air.

Chapter One

Morgana

I hated to admit it, but I was a sucker for a good psychopath. The sinister, mischievous smile always seemed to get me. It didn’t help that some of my own screws got knocked loose awhile ago.

But I was a good person once.

Being a good person ruined my life.

I waited too late in the day to go for my run, but sitting in the house had made me restless. The knife I had hidden underneath the bathroom sink kept whispering for me to take it out. If I didn’t leave, I’d end up playing in a puddle of my blood, getting higher than a kite.

So, there I was, jogging down the barren road, Lana Del Rey blasting through my earbuds. The sun was obscuring my vision, but even partially blinded I could see the dog in the middle of the street. And the car that was approaching, speeding up instead of slowing down.

My moral obligation had me sprinting to scoop the brown and white bundle into my arms. Tires screeched, I screamed, and the car swerved around me. If my bladder had been full, I would’ve pissed my pants.

I pulled the earphones out in time to hear a sleuth of expletives come from inside the large muscle car. The driver had stopped over on the side of the road; his once shiny vehicle now covered in dust. The smell of burnt rubber lingered in the humid air.

Casting a nervous glance back at the classic car, I assessed the dog in my arms and began walking up the street on shaky legs. Away from the angry driver.

The engine revved and tires spun. With a speed that had dust particles rising back into the air, the car zipped passed me just so the driver could cut me off. I had a vague idea of who the driver was.

“What the fuck are you doing?” A man opened the driver door and began to get out. My mind flashed with instant recognition. He had sunglasses on, and I could still feel his eyes burning holes into me.

“You were going to hit him.” I adjusted the small dog in my arms, feeling his wiry fur scratch against my bare skin.

“So you risked your life for a stupid animal?”

“Don’t call him stupid! If you had been driving like a normal person, instead of trying to go fast like a typical douche bag with a sports car, you would have seen him.”

“I wouldn’t have changed course,” he shrugged.

“Then you’re a douche bag and an asshole. Congratulations.” I glared at him and walked passed the trunk, feeling his eyes follow me.

“Morgana,” said a deep voice with an intoxicating amount of sultriness. The amusement in his tone now that he realized who I was irritated me.

“Fucking awesome,” I muttered, turning to face him. Of all people to come in contact with on a barren country road, I run into, Julian Andreou.

The sunglasses on his face may have prevented me from seeing his eyes. But they didn’t hide his prominent jawline, his slight stubble, or the dark eyebrow he had raised at me.

“I was distracted.” He gave me a smile that had deep dimples appearing on his cheeks. Like water on a flame, my immediate anger doused.

“No apology for almost killing me?” He towered above my height of five-four, leaving me no choice but to frown up at him. My reflection looked back at me in his Aviators. God, I looked a hot mess. Strands of baylage brunette hair had escaped my fishtail braid, and a tiny bit of perspiration coated my bronze skin.

He reached up and removed his sunglasses, allowing the full intensity of his gaze to meet mine. His green hues were smiling, causing my stomach to dip for an entirely different reason.

Julian was a gorgeous, immaculately groomed man, and I knew he was indubitably aware of his attractiveness. His ego didn’t need any more strokes, so I always chose to act indifferent. This, in my opinion, is what made him so ‘interested’ in me.

That weird thing people do where one pulls away, so the other follows. That’s what this had to be. He was a patient wolf who wore a suit, and I was the little lamb he wanted to devour.

“I was distracted by staring at you. Something I’ve been doing for close to a year now.” He enunciated each word slowly. As if I could ever forget someone like him, kept trying to ask me out.

He dragged his burning gaze up and down my body. Cognizant I was only wearing a sports bra and tiny yoga shorts; the dog became my shield against his ogling.

“Goodbye, Julian.”

Shaking my head, I turned on my heel and continued walking. Seconds later, a door slammed shut, and he pulled off. I couldn’t hide my amused smile when his car pulled up beside me, moving forward at a snail’s pace.

“Get in the car, Morgan. I’ll take you home,” his smooth baritone voice softly called out to me.

The rumors about his family swirled around in my head. My cheeks heated in shame when I realized what I was doing. Judging him. Just like everyone in town did me.

The people who knew the least about you always had the most to say. In Riverview, a girl giving a boy a small kiss on the cheek spun into a story about her giving blowjobs in the church.

It was a quaint town, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing unless you were someone like me. A girl that had been smacked with a crazy label.

Riverview gossip spread faster than wildfires. They took a truth, twisted it, and ran wild with lies. When someone found out a tidbit of information about me, I was suddenly a weird recluse that belonged in a freak show.

“Come on, Morgana. I only want to take you home.” His words were saturated with double meaning. I glanced over expecting to see his cocky signature smirk, but all he gave me was a genial smile.

I shouldn’t have considered his offer, but I did. My house was a good thirty minutes away. Satan had lit Hellfires on earth; the heat was kicking my ass, and the dog in my arms felt like he’d been put in an oven.

“Okay,” I omitted, slanting my eyes down to the blacktop and walking around his car. The dog turned its head but didn’t do much else.

Julian climbed out and quickly came around to open the passenger door for me. Once I was settled into the cool leather seat, he went back to the driver side.

Something in my head was telling me this was a terrible idea.

Sneak Peek

They barely made it through front door, especially since Dominic almost broke through it when the key didn’t make it into the lock on the first try. Once inside, Kate practically pulled him onto the floor of the long entryway. It felt like she was in a scene from a movie. They fumbled as they moved, insisting that they didn’t lose grip of each other. Dominic kicked the door closed behind them and, dropping to his knees, lifted her sundress up to reveal her stomach. Everything had been frantic and thrilling, but for a short moment, he stopped and sweetly kissed her hips and belly button. He glanced up at Kate and gave her that deadly smirk. Full of life again, he ripped the dress over her head. Next, she was undressing him as they found their way to the first piece of furniture that would support them- a white stone sofa table that ran along the back of the couch in the middle of the room. He lifted her up onto the table, and the shock of the cold against her butt and thighs startled her into a laugh.

Again, she found her hands running along the tattoos of his artwork splashed across his muscular chest. She leaned over and kissed along the swirls of paint. She loved his work. Seeing and touching it in real-life on the artist himself…it was an indescribable feeling. She wanted him inside of her now. She laid back on the table while her head rested on the back cushions of the couch. Dominic knew just what to do to take her over the edge.

With each thrust, she moved further back on the table. Finally, she leaned her head back and saw the comfort of the huge white couch behind her. She reached up and grabbed his shoulders. He knew what she wanted. They maneuvered over the table together and landed safely on the couch, which was deep enough to comfortably hold the two of them.

Dominic climbed on top of her. He had had other women on this same couch over the years, but nothing compared to this moment with Kate. No other woman in his past had ever excited him this way. He reached through her pile of hair and found the back of her head, lifting it up to meet his so he could take her mouth again. She let out a sweet moan in response.

Dominic had always loved it hard and fast, and now was fighting to keep himself in check. Earlier that morning, he had been just barely awake, and she was so perfectly sweet. Their first time felt more like some kind of dream. This time, he wanted to savor the moment with her. He didn’t want it to feel like a random fuck with a woman he had picked up. Kate was too special for that. He slowed his pace. She spread her legs wider to take him in deeper. With that one simple move, his eyes rolled back inside his head, and he lost any sense of control he thought he had obtained.

Sneak Peek

Kate’s eyes followed Jax’s as he looked around the shop to see which artists were available. And then she saw him.

Strands of dark hair, cropped short in the back, were left to fall just so over intense dark eyes and the creased brow of a deep thinker. Below the eyes was a strong pointed nose and a delicious mouth curved into a sexy smirk. He could have walked out of a 70s rock concert, with tattered shorts, a heavy leather belt, and a fitted t-shirt. He looked like a model, one of those half-naked men who leave the shirts they’re supposed to be selling balled up behind them. But the effortless ease with which the clothes hung off of him told her that he had probably thrown them on without a second thought. He was, in so many words, the epitome of the handsome mysterious stranger.

He was in the corner station, leaning back on a stool, legs resting on the client table in front of him. A book lay in his lap, forgotten when something had caught his attention. That something appeared to be Kate, the sexy smirk turned in her direction. Kate found herself unable to pull away from that smirk, those eyes. He was the complete opposite of her usual type and somehow also the sexiest man she had ever seen. She felt an undeniable sense of exhilaration, like she was a kid stealing a piece of candy.

Mr. Dark and Mysterious motioned to Jax, who jumped to go see what was needed. Mr. Dark and Mysterious spoke briefly to him, his eyes maintaining the connection with Kate’s. He broke the gaze for the briefest moment to nod to Jax, then snapped back to hers, as though unable to restrain himself.
