About the Book…

Happy to sing cover songs with his band and float through New Jersey University with little to no effort, Dave Novak spends the first week of college partying. Then he meets Maggie Patrinski. Performing on stage in front of hundreds is easy for Dave, but the mere thought of Maggie sends his heart racing and turns him into a bumbling idiot. Even so, he can’t get her out of his mind.

Maggie’s not exactly thrilled when her roommate sets her up with Second Floor Dave, the hottie with a reputation. Not only has she just had her heart broken, but she’s vying for a competitive summer internship and studying to become a vet. She doesn’t have time for guys and isn’t interested in falling in love, especially when she may be moving across the country for the summer.

But as Maggie gets to know Dave, his charm wins her over and she falls hard and fast. The problem? Maggie has goals, Dave doesn’t. Maggie studies, Dave doesn’t. Maggie wants it all, Dave only wants her. With their summer plans up in the air and past mistakes creeping back into their lives, their future together is uncertain. The only thing they’re sure of is that when they’re together, they’re better.

About InHuman

Mira’s mother sizes up bodies at the morgue like she’s rifling through the sales rack: this one’s too big… this one’s too small… ah, here it is. Just right. The perfect vessel for the one they’ll call Adam.

Since Adam’s survival is the key to drawing out the Conduit—a slippery sort bent on evacuating souls from their human bodies—Mira must help him pass for a typical teenage boy. That means showing him how to talk right, walk right, chew with his mouth open… blend in.

Ironic, because blending in is has always been a challenge for Mira, especially with hair the color of a Dorito. But at their small, secluded prep school, blending in is a matter of life and death.

Because the Conduit is watching.

My Review:

I’ve managed to finish this book in one day, which should say something! This is the reason I decided to go with the 4 stars, not 3. The story was quite catchy and entertaining, but most of it I had the impression I was reading part two.

I like the idea of secret organizations helping an alien race close to extinction to settle on Earth. I liked as well Mira’s determination to eliminate the enemy and save her father and his kind. The other characters have a dual demeanor. Until the end, you still have to guess who is in with the bad guys.

From plot perspective, I would have wanted more details about the secret organization helping the aliens. Also about the conduits and about how Mira’s mother got sick. And how come our main character’s training revolves around a conversation with a father gone for years? How come an organization that handles “accommodations” for ETs and preparations for life on Earth hat two guys, a teenage girl and a sick mom as “field agents”? Don’t get me wrong, I liked the story! I just think there are some blank spaces in it. It has potential of a great one actually and I wish for book two, with a more detailed and even complicated action.

Mira’s insecurities can be justified by her being half human half alien. Her foreign part doesn’t seem to be as developed as it should and she is still learning how to tap into all that power. She doesn’t seem to be that close to her mother, especially since her father’s disappearance. I wonder how that went…

Hal and Larry are also a strange duo. They are her link with the organization, but they seem more like some worried uncles. Brandon and Adam are under a constant change – read the book to find out what’s that all about. The negative character was very funny and I can say it’s my favorite!

To close up, I’ll stick with the 3.5 stars and hope for a better detailed story in book no. 2 ! Enjoy J
