Molly Ivers has always known she’d marry a foreign man with a delicious accent. Six months ago, in a night of unbridled passion, Molly gave her virginity to her friend and sexy-as-can-be neighbor, rocker Evan Castle. Unfortunately, thanks to his swarm of constant groupies, things didn’t work out, but they remained friends. Now, after having just broken up with her boring, run-of-the-mill, right wing boyfriend Sean, she’s on the verge of finishing her graduate degree, moving to Paris, and is desperate to shake things up!

She’s had a crush on Nicholas Sullivan, her British professor, for as long as she can remember. So when opportunity comes knocking to spice up her appearance in the form of a French life coach, she hires Jean Luc Dubois to help her let her hair down and become more Parisian and hip…to reflect the person she is within. Thanks to Jean Luc’s magic, she starts to catch her hunky English professor’s eye, but the more time she spends with Evan, the more she begins to realize that her Prince Charming might just be the one she’s known all along.

My Review:

This is indeed one of those HOT books, with hot scenes and burning desires. The fire between Daemon and Aimee started long time ago, but since he did not pay much attention to her she was left with her desire and imagination. When Aimee’s twin sister is forced to retreat from a gaming competition because of an arm injury, she is asked to take her place so that her team is not disqualified. So here comes Daemon, who’s supposed to teach her how to play “The Celestial Prophecy”. But being left alone in her apartment, they start playing a different kind of game J

For a short length story, the book is very well compressed, most of the action happening between our main characters. I can say that the way they begin their relationship is a little frail. Somehow, when Aimee finds herself alone with him is overpowered by her feelings and becomes this bold woman, ready to seduce the man of her dreams. Well, he also gives her the needed encouragements J These moments with the two of them are quite nicely built, the reader can feel the emotions, the passion and the intensity of the moment.

Daemon has tried to avoid Aimee as much as he could. Not sure exactly why, he mot definitely is not a shy guy, on the contrary. Maybe out of respect for her sister, who is his best friend. He will do all in his power to convince Aimee that what he feels for her is not a momentary thing and that he wants long term.

Even if Aimee has had these hidden feelings for him, she has never had the courage to show them. She always believed Daemon will never look her way. The moment he shows her that he is attracted to her as well, she starts exploring, or better yet, living her fantasies. Lucky woman!

The gaming competition comes second to their relationship. At some point I had the feeling it didn’t even matter anymore, even if both kept training. Well, I can understand why you’d put a space shooting game second to … other activities.

All in all, the story was nice, I enjoyed reading how both characters came together and evolved as a couple. I appreciated the clean romance as well – for a short book, an ex would have been an unnecessary complication. Hope you’ll like it too!

Excerpt

Daemon

“Daemon!” an insistent voice called over the speakers in his room. He didn’t pay it any mind. He had the sexiest woman in the universe under him not wearing panties. Nothing was more important than that.

“DAEMON!” the voice insistently called.

Daemon looked up to the TV screen to see the press corps sitting with their mouths gaping staring back at he and Aimee. Aimee let out a small scream and scooted out of the camera range, until she accidently fell off the bed with an unladylike thump.

He ran his hand through his hair. How could I have forgotten?! He had scheduled a press conference with the South Korean gaming press elite. As usual, he had left the permissions on his gaming system to bring up the video conferencing screen at the appointed time. When he was playing, he never had time to pause to answer, auto-answering had always made sense… until now.

The press seemed to come alive at the same moment. Loud voices rose through the speakers and the journalists tried to ask their questions all at once. Daemon muted the TV and turned to Aimee, who was kneeling on the floor, peeking over the bed at the TV with wide eyes.

Daemon felt his heart race. He couldn’t lose her now. Not when they were so close. Not over this. He held his hand out to her. “Aimee, I’m so sorry! I had forgotten that I had scheduled this interview.”

Aimee’s muffled voice was hard to make out as she spoke into the down comforter. “Um… it’s okay. They can still see me, Daemon.”

Daemon whipped his head back around to see their projected image in one of the screens. Sure enough, he saw himself laying across the bed with Aimee’s eyes peeking out over the top of the mattress. “Fuck. Just… just… dip down. I’ll take care of this.” He waited until he saw Aimee’s head disappear behind the bed.

He unmuted the sound and immediately the shouting voices of the journalists jockeying for attention almost deafened him. “Please! PLEASE! Calm down! I am happy to answer your gaming questions,” he began, “But, my answer for anything relating to my personal life is ‘NO COMMENT.’”

My Review:

A Rollercoaster of feelings….

This is how I would classify this series. Ash has been through more than any child or teenager should experience. As a consequence, she is very traumatized emotionally and has a difficult time getting over everything that happened with her stepfather. Her mother and grandparents does not believe her so this is in no way help to her recovery. Having a real family around sure counts, but she has issues integrating, with all the help her real father and her stepmother are offering.

But the series is not extraordinary only because of this. There are multiple issues (like racism, homosexuality, friendship, trust, love, forgiveness) that can be analyzed. The relationship between teachers and students is also very well analyzed and illustrated from various points of view: the teacher concerned by the well-being of the students, the one obsessed with his teachings and the teacher parent. I do believe these aspects provide very complex and detailed picture of a teenager’s life, traumatized or not.

There are a lot of issues that can be discussed about the books. I loved all three of them and I believe they are interesting, not only from the main character’s perspective. The way the author managed to combine sexual abuse with other social aspects left me wordless! I would like to congratulate Beth Fehlbaum for this amazing trilogy. The way the feelings were reflected and transmitted to the reader impressed me! This is a story I would gladly read again!

Book Review: Powers of the Six

BOOK DETAILS:29339410

Powers of the Six by Kristal Shaff
(Emissary of Light #1)
Publication date: April 1st 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Blurb:
(Previously published as THE EMISSARY with Month9books)

Six rare powers govern the land of Adamah. Possessing one demands entrance to the king’s army. To refuse means a traitorous death.

For hundreds of years, dark clouds covered the skies of Adamah, and an ageless king ruled. Those who emerged with one of six extraordinary Shay powers were forced into the king’s army, an unmatched force with inhuman Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Perception, Empathy, and Healing. With the army behind him, the king—a man who wields all six abilities—was invincible and unquestioned in his rule.

To most, serving the king was an honor. But for others, it was a fate worse than death. When seventeen-year-old Nolan Trividar witnesses the transformation of his brother from kind to cruel after entering the king’s army, he vows never to follow the same path.

POWERS OF THE SIX take you to another world where the smallest person can do extraordinary things, the undead infest the night, and the sun emits more than just warmth and light.

My Review:

This is a challenging book! It shows Kristal Shaff’s writing skills and her great imagination. Creating a completely new world in medieval times, combining this world with the language of that time and adding the fantasy elements is worthy of our attention. I love how the author decided to create this story from scratch.

The characters evolve constantly, from shy and not significant to bold and brave. I appreciated the slow development of action in the beginning, as it gave me some idea about why the characters decided to live the way they did. The Shay powers also were nicely combined, especially when the team started building up. I cannot say I have a favorite character as all of them had something specific, each one being unique in his/her way.

This is definitely a series to follow and another author to be added on my list. I do hope you enjoy it as much as I did. You will be captivated by the new surroundings and each character’s personality!

Book Review: The Dreamer: The Dreamland Series Book I (Volume 1)

BOOK DETAILS:THEDREAMER_BookCover

The Dreamer by E.J. Mellow
(Dreamland #1)
Publication date: May 15th 2015
Genres: Fantasy, New Adult

Blurb:
It’s night. Always night. Dreams guard against the evil forged by nightmares. Infinite shooting stars illuminate a moonless sky. A city stands alone, surrounded by a darkened field. On its fringes, a man watches one star separate from the masses and fall. What survives the crash will unveil a secret centuries long hidden.

Molly hasn’t slept well since the night of her twenty-fourth birthday. Being struck by lightning might have something to do with it, but then again, her chicken did look a little undercooked at dinner. Whatever the culprit, her life quickly catapults from mundane to insane as, night after night, Molly is transported through her once dreamless sleep to a mysterious land illuminated by shooting stars.

There she meets the captivating but frustrating Dev, and together they discover Molly possesses a power coveted by his people—the ability to conjure almost anything she desires into existence. Seduced by the possibilities of this gift, Molly shifts her attention from waking life toward the man, the magic, and the world found in her dreams.

But Molly must ask herself—does something truly exist if you only see it when you close your eyes?

Faced with the threat of losing everything—her job, best friend, boyfriend, and most importantly, that little thing called her sanity—Molly will learn just how far she’ll go to uncover what is real and what is merely a figment of her imagination.

My Review:

Ok, this is difficult. I would like somehow to limit my description of this book to “Amazing” only. I’m not trying to skip a review but this is just one of those books you JUST have to read. Why? It has everything a reader (at least one with my tastes in books) would want from a book.

With an exceptional writing style, E.J. Mellow has created a dream land that is absolutely fantastic, some characters that will take your breath away, love issues and an ending that will send you straight to the next book. I am not sure if there are any other books that write about a girl who manages to step into her dream reality but if there are, I strongly believe this one tops them by far.  Not to forget the funny lines ! I do believe Molly’s struggle to keep the boundaries between her dreams and reality was very well built and all the emotions throughout the book were as well nicely underlined.

Overall, I believe you should give it a try. I and at least 10 other readers and/or reviewers are recommending this. Oh and if you still do not believe us, check the awards and praises it has received.

Book Review: Bending Under Pressure

BOOK DETAILS:29233555

Bending Under Pressure by Lindsay Paige
Publication date: January 27th 2016
Genres: Romance, Young Adult

Blurb:
Haley Summers is struggling. She’s in a new town with new teammates. She’s unsure if she likes her new stepdad. She doesn’t know why her father isn’t answering her calls and keeps bailing on her. The only thing she has going for her is a boy who is struggling just as much as she is.

Keelan Moore is always feeling pressure. He wants to be a good kid for his adoptive parents while getting reacquainted with his birth mom and that part of his family. The only thing he has going for him is Haley and showing her just how fun her new home can be.

Pressure is hitting them from all sides. Can they survive unscathed while bending under pressure?

My Review

About  “Bending Under Pressure” I can say that this is yet another “tutorial” about how to cope with big family issues, not necessarily from a teenage perspective. Even Though we have Haley and Keelan  in the spot light, we can also see how their families react when faced with divorce – in case of Haley – or adoption issues – in Keelan’s case.

I believe this is a complex book, as it covers the main characters’ story from multiple angles. We see how they react individually, we see how their families react and also how the two of them decide to be there for each other and support one another. I appreciated that the focus of the book was not shifted to the love relationship building between Haley and Keelan and no additional drama was created (like jealousy or other things like that). I can state that this is a clean, simple and honest book, about the pain you feel when your family lets you down.

So I do recommend you give it a try! My 5 stars go for this nice story and I do hope you enjoy it too!

Book Review: Following Evan

Hey guys,

Back with a review for a book released earlier this week. You can check the Book Blitz here. So here it goes:

Book Title: Following EvanFollowing Evan

Author: Elida May

Blurb:

Three years on from the sudden death of her husband Matt and a subsequent miscarriage, interior designer Laura is still lost in grief, hiding out in the smart London townhouse that was going to be her family home. On the encouragement of her best friend Carla, she signs up to a dating website and receives a message from a mysterious stranger, imploring her to visit him in New York because he has seen her face in his dreams.  Meanwhile, Laura visits an art gallery and is captivated by a painting of a beautiful woman in a flowing dress. It seems to be speaking directly to her, beckoning her to take a leap of faith.  These seemingly disparate events lead Laura on an epic journey to the bustling streets of the Big Apple and the desert landscape of Wyoming, where the clues to her future happiness are waiting to be discovered…

My Review:

This is one emotional story that should be read especially by those who’ve lost someone close. Every word written seems as if taken from one’s soul. I could feel all the pain that Laura felt, I could feel every decision she’s taken and her determination to start over, start living again. Big points to the author for that, I think she really did a great job at writing this book. You will be swimming in a sea of emotions and I do not overreact at all!

As for the story, I must admit at some point I was lost between Laura’s dreams and her illusions. There were moments in which I thought she was going crazy. Also there were some parts which weren’t necessary story-related, but could be used to define her as a character. Overall, I like the idea, I like how she manages to turn her life around and how she went searching for her happiness.

In my opinion, the author spent a lot of time building Laura as a character. She spent a lot of time developing all her feelings and building her a road to self-achievement (personal or professional). It can be easily seen that it is a book written with a lot of care and effort, so it deserves my 5 stars! Congratulations to the author for a great story!
