In the first novel in the new Kingman Brothers series from Nina Crespo a disgruntled assistant is wrangled into staying on to help her boss when he suffers from amnesia after a plane crash…Playing this out with him was so wrong, but she didn’t want to stop.

Forget You copy

Sophie Jordan dreams about hooking up with Nicolas “King” Kingman—the gorgeous CEO of her company—but as her boss, he’ll always remain out of reach. King knows he isn’t built for happily-ever-afters and only indulges in brief romantic encounters. But when Sophie agrees to fill in as his last-minute date to a charity gala, an unexpected discovery quickly escalates their platonic relationship to one of passion.

King is determined to ignore their attraction and, feeling betrayed, Sophie severs ties with him and the company. Everything changes, however, when he’s injured in an accident, and Sophie agrees to help until he closes a major deal. Unfortunately, he’s developed amnesia, and although he doesn’t remember their night together, desire binds them in ways they can’t resist.

Time is running out on closing the deal, as well as Sophie moving on to her new career. Will King deny love in favor of winning and lose Sophie forever?

My Review

Oh my God, you cannot even imagine how much I liked this book! I liked the characters, the story, I liked the writing, I liked how the action is fitted perfectly in the dimensions. I liked everything!

Sophie has had a major crush on her boss. But she knows very well that the success of their business relationship is due to its professional aspect.  She is not willing to cross this line, especially since he often changes partners. But one evening she accompanies him at an official event and things get out of control. Problem is that after the deed is done (if you get what I mean), they cannot go back to how things were. Add to that a little amnesia (really, a real amnesia) and the story gets more interesting and more intense.

Let me tell you, the characters are really really good. You don’t see that jealous secret lover who envies every other woman that comes next to her man. No, you see a mature Sophie, looking to secure her independence, but more from an emotional point of view. She is not looking for “complicated”. She just wants a beautiful relationship, as any woman. King is a business man and he needs the success to prove to his father that he is no longer needed, that his influence has not touched him or his brother. He knows that it’s better for him to keep Sophie close from a professional point of view. Who cares about flings and one night stands? Well, we shall see….

Besides the fire burning between our main characters, we have a great relationship between brothers. While King deals with his amnesia, his brother is there to take control. When one is down, the other is there to pick him up. If one is in a hurry to close the deal, the other takes his time to analyze. I liked it. I liked how the author spent time developing the brothers, not only the couple.

So after my first encounter with Nina Crespo, I can tell you that I loved her book and her writing! You will not be disappointed at all! An interesting love story, a quick read, perfect for an evening of dreaming. Enjoy J

Title: The Last King

Author: Katee Robert

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: April 3, 2018

Publisher: Forever

Series: The Kings

Page Count: 336 pages

Format: Digital

ISBN: 978-1455597109

Beckett King just inherited his father’s fortune, his company-and all his enemies. If he’s going to stay on top, he needs someone he can trust beside him. And though they’ve been rivals for years, there’s no one he trusts more than Samara Mallick.

The rebel. That’s how Samara has always thought of Beckett. And he’s absolutely living up to his unpredictable ways when he strides into her office and asks for help. She can’t help wondering if it’s a legit request or just a ploy to get her into bed. Not that she’d mind either one. After all, she likes to live on the edge too.

But soon the threats to the King empire are mounting, and the two find family secrets darker than they ever imagined and dangerous enough to get them both killed.

Praise for The Last King:

“Top Pick! Beckett and Samara are a fantastic, modern couple. They clash in the boardroom and the bedroom, are total equals, and their bring-it-on spirit makes every interaction lively and exciting — whether clothes are on or off. … The heart of this romance is the development of trust between Beckett and Samara, and Robert expertly unfolds it, revealing the emotional connection on both sides under the flash and fire of their irresistible chemistry. 4 1/2 stars.”—RT Book Reviews

My Review

Wow, I loved this book so so much. I am sorry I’ve finished it because I would have wanted the story to last more. I could not get enough of the main characters, their initial complicated relationship and then their relationship as a couple.

Kate Robert is without a doubt and exceptional writer. Her characters have a meaningful story, her characters have a strong personality and most importantly, her words have feelings and power over mine as a reader. And in my opinion, that’s all that’s needed for a 5 star romance.

Beckett and Samara work for different companies. Actually he owns the company that rivals the one she works for. They meet occasionally, they fight for the same things, but once the fighting is over, fire stars. Their relationship is beautiful and explosive at same time. He is carrying, attentive and is all in for her. And Samara, with all her trust issues, will be captivated by his attention. Both characters evolve in a beautiful way, but probably the change is more visible in Samara’s case, when her scarred personality will fade into the loving woman she is towards the end.

But this book is not all about romance (mostly yes). It does have a plot that kept me so focused and on the edge. I wanted to see how it all turned out with Beckett’s company, Samara’s career and all in between. The author really knows how to combine a good romance with a good plot.

To my sadness, this is my first book by Katee Robert and I am so sorry for not having read other books by her. But time is not lost, I have plenty of titles to recover. So give this book a try and I’m sure you’ll become as addicted as I am. Happy Reading!

She fished in her purse for her insurance card and looked at the Porsche again. She’d definitely scratched its paint and dented its bumper.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” This time the curse did escape her usually prim lips, and she felt marginally better.

Ridiculous mid-life-crisis mobile. What kind of self-respecting adult male actually drove around in that kind of thing? Clearly a total cheeseball. He was probably five-foot-two with a bald head and a big belly. And had thick, black chest hair tangled with gold chains. She braced herself as the door opened.

Faded jeans molded muscled thighs and were topped by a U2 T-shirt that looked like it had been bought at a concert long ago, not recently at some trendy boutique. He pulled himself to his full height, and she had to tilt her head back to look at him.

Holy wow.

She cleared her throat. “I’m s-so sorry I h-hit you.”

She cringed at her stuttering. But it sure wasn’t every day she encountered such a specimen of pure male gorgeousness on her way home. Well over six feet tall with wavy, sandy hair, he was lean with broad shoulders and well-muscled in the way of a tennis player or surfer. He was maybe a bit older than she was, but nothing except the car screamed “mid-life crisis.” If his expression hadn’t been twisted in annoyance, he would have been perfect.

“Are you blind? Do you have any idea how much this car cost?”

My Review

“Beneath” is one interesting story! It took me by surprise more than once and it left me wanting for much more, not only because of the ending, but as well because I just want to see more of that world and more of the characters.

Since it is just the beginning, we see a lot of world building and character development, but it is not at all boring or at a slow pace. On the contrary, we get to discover bits and pieces of the Underworld and the mysterious people that live there. At every turn there is something new and unique. While I liked it very much, sometimes I felt as if the author even lost herself when preparing the set. I could feel her need to put on paper her images of the ocean depths. This is the part that I enjoyed most.

I could not insist that much on the Romance as it was not one of my favorite points in this first book. The couples are not solid enough yet and I would like to think that in the following parts they will be stronger together. We have Stella with her best friend’s brother and then Jill with one of the guys from the new world. But same as the world, we have characters with different personalities. And that is a bonus point!

Now, I would have liked to give more than 3.5 stars but I think that the beginning was a little rushed.  I would have liked to explore more the relationship between Stella and Colin’s family before the accident. As well, I would have liked more from Romance perspective. I know this is not a romance intended book, but the couples were kind of sudden.

All in all, this was a great lecture and I am very interested to find more. I hope you’ll give it a shot, as this world is something else entirely! You will not be disappointed. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Enjoy J

My Review

Uf, this book gave me some mixed feelings. On one side, I did enjoy the audiobook, I liked the narration very much, but I wanted a bigger explosion, and that explosion was left much towards the end.

We have here a team of Call of Battle (hope I got the name right) players who earn their monthly income by doing exactly what they love: playing games. All the books in the series will follow the team members but book one brings us Dex and Morgan – Dex being the player, game player. He is the perfect guy: good looking, friendly, respectful and sexy as sin! She is a nerd. She knows nothing about games, knows nothing about what being a gamer means and on top of that, has her own family issues.

Let’s start with the writing. It was clean, sweet and gentle. We have a dual perspective story that is very useful in many situations towards the book. There are moments in which one character acts in a way that apparently makes no sense, but once we have his or her POV, all clears up. We have family and friendship as main themes. So I can say it’s all ok on this area. The end brings a solution to all problems. It was unexpected, but a bit rushed to my taste.

The characters are not exceptional. They would seem boring, but even boring people have some interesting story. Yes, they are not exceptional (well, Dex kind of is), they are not explosive, but sweet and genuine. I disliked Morgan completely. I tried to find excuses for her behavior in her family issues but her jealousy and refusal to understand or accept Dex’s lifestyle really bothered me. The guy really was sweet!

The narration was great and as I would have imagined. The narrator managed to capture Morgan’s episodes and her frustration and as well as Dex’s inner struggle to understand her and save his relationship, if possible.

So without too much wine and dine, I will go with 3.5 stars for this book, but I can tell you that the series is very promising. The other couples are much more interesting and intriguing. Book two “One More Round” is published already as far as Goodreads shows and I cannot wait to give it a try. I loved Dax, did not like that much Morgan but the book is worth your while big time J Happy Reading/Listening!

Book Review: Thirsty

Feeling THIRSTY? Visit the Eastside Brewery…

A gangster hiding from his past. A single mom fighting for her future. Can she show this bad boy the man’s he’s meant to be? Mia Hopkins is back with the first in an all-new contemporary series, THIRSTY (Eastside Brewery #1)!

9780525478638 (1)

My name is Salvador Rosas. Back in the barrio, my past is written on the walls: ESHB. Short for East Side Hollenbeck, my father’s gang—my gang. Hell, it’s a family tradition, one that sent both my brothers away. They used to call me “Ghost” because I haunted people’s dreams. Now I’ve got nothing going for me except a hipster gringo mentoring me in a new career. An ex-con making craft beer? No mames.
Still, people in this neighborhood look out for one another. That’s how I became Vanessa Velasco’s unwelcome tenant. Chiquita pero picosa. She’s little, but with curves so sweet they’re dangerous. I remember Vanessa from the old days, the straight-A student with big plans. Plans that were derailed by another kid stupid enough to think he was bulletproof. Now Vanessa knows better than to believe in empty promises. There’s fire in her . . . and if I touch her, I might get burned.
I’m trying everything I can to go straight. But when East Side Hollenbeck comes calling, I might have to risk it all to find out if there’s a future for Vanessa and me. Because she’s the only one who can quench my thirst for something real.

My Review

So many things can be discussed about this book. It covers a wide range of themes. It analyzes all aspects of life on the hood, family, second chance, starting over and taking life changing steps. The main characters are awesome and very very good for each other.

An interesting fact is that the book is told from Ghost’ POV. The author did a great job maintaining that male character tone, combined with Spanish and gang slang. I see the characters as well developed, even if young. Once would argue that at 22, a woman like Vanessa couldn’t know much about life and love. But she has been through so much and has had to learn how to become a mother quickly in life.  As for Ghost, he has a chance to start over and he is not willing to let that pass. And I think all their experience is captured very well. The beginning is focused on portraying his mental state and it goes to underline the importance of all things happening now in his life.

I’ll not insist too much on the plot development, as it’s more than well described in the blurb. But I will tell you this: Ghost wants a fresh start and not only for him, but also for his brother who’s still in prison. He tries to stay away from gang life but the pull is there. If he’ll manage to escape it and how, is more a mental process, than a spread of actions.

When they come together, they are both looking for a partner in all aspects: someone to talk to, someone to share some pretty hot moments, someone who won’t judge. But she proves to be his stability, his hope for a better life. Ghost is her spark, he’s what makes her vibrate with youth again, the crazy good, the fun good. And it’s great!

But except that, both he and Vanessa are devoted to their families. Her daughter is the light of her life, the only thing that pushes her forward (that little girl is absolutely adorable anyway!). Ghost wants a quiet life for his brother too. But his devotion to family is visible with his relationship with one of his friends’ wife and children. He cares for them and at one point even offers them a small joy in an ugly neighborhood.

Suffice to say I loved it so so much! I wanted to know more about his struggles, I wanted so much more! I needed 1500 pages more! And I sure have so many other things to add about this book, but I’m going to let you discover all the beauty in it. So please read it, enjoy it and comment back your thoughts ! Happy reading!

Eventually, I select a large canvas, so large, I can’t get it on the easel and settle for the floor. I strip my jeans, long sleeved shirt and slip my shoes off, donning the sizeable green smock hanging on the wall. And I paint. Losing track of time or space. Fully immersed in the colors, my vision, my emotion.

“Here you are,” Coop says from the doorway, and I twist on all fours in his direction.

He’s leaning on the door jamb with his arms relaxed at his sides, and his feet crossed like he has been standing there a while.

“How long have you been here?”

I’ve been painting for hours, my fingers tingle, my feet are numb, and my lower back aches from crouching and contorting myself into strange, awkward positions. I was oblivious to the cries of my body while working.

“A bit.” He pushes off the wall, nearing to help me to my feet.

I roll my neck and shake out my limbs before tilting my head to look at him. He smiles, his white teeth and twinkling eyes pop as he tucks a few strands behind my ear.

“You’ve got some paint on your face.” His finger slides down my check and then the side of my nose. “It looks good on you.”

Heat travels from the center of my chest outward, and I can’t help but smile, “I’m glad you think so.”

Gone is my anger or bruised ego from his departure last night. I don’t really know what I was expecting or wanting, and I’m glad to see him. I’m also happy to see that he’s more himself.

“What am I going to do with you? You have to stop disappearing on me.”

“And what? Make your job easier, not a chance.” I tease, treading lightly, all too aware of the kind of trouble my wondering off could cause.
